Principal's Report Term 2 Week 9

This morning I was able to attend the Year 4 Mass with Fr Sang and celebrate the First Communion of Archer Brown with his family.  It was the second time that the Year 4 teachers and children have gathered together to celebrate Mass as a Year 4 family since their own First Eucharist in May this year. Thank you to Fr Sang for allowing us to celebrate this special mass with Archer's class and family.

Joining together as a school family with those parishioners and parents that attended Mass, struck me that we are so fortunate that we can gather as a united family.  We should never underestimate the fact that at Clairvaux we are free and able to live in a country that is devoid of conflict.

This week is Refugee Week and the theme this year is Finding Freedom.

There are many people who have arrived in Australia from other countries.  Either as families and individuals seeking a new start,  or those that have been forced to seek asylum as refugees from countries that are in turmoil through war, persecution because of nationality or religious beliefs etc.

Throughout our history Australia has been a beacon of hope for many.  Many have found freedom.  This year's theme asks to reflect on the stories of refugees who despite the challenges that they encountered, and with the resilience that they demonstrated, they have embraced the freedom of being part of the Australian family.

May we continue to shine a light on the bonds created through the refugee program as it has had the power to create long lasting relationships for all Australians which has changed lives.

In the words of Andrew Chin

We are God’s hands,

We are God’s eyes.

May our hearts be the love of God

We Are God's Hands

Anxiety Coach

The final session of Anxiety Coach was held on Tuesday night with Sam Lester. (Mental Health leader and Counsellor)  Many thanks to Sam who led parents through three sessions and to the parents who attended online.  The take home messages from this week's session were:
1. How can one brain calm another brain? Our role as parents being the      more knowing other.

2. How children can learn to self soothe.

3. Children need help from adults to manage anxiety.

4. Parents can help children understand their anxiety (empathy)

5. Challenging cognitive distortions - how children interpret adversity can result in them feeling anxious or calming themselves.

Two weeks to go, I am sure we are looking forward to the mid year break.

Regards, Brendan

Mid Year Parent Teacher Interviews 2025

In the last week of this term we will be holding our ‘Mid Year Parent Teacher Chats’. These conversations will be held either in person or via a phone call made to you from your child’s teacher - your child does not need to be available to participate in the conversation and you will have the opportunity to select an option when you book. Meetings will be held on:

  • Monday 30th June (12:10 pm - 6:30 pm) - (PLEASE NOTE ALL STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 12 MIDDAY ON THIS DAY - YOU WILL NEED TO ARRANGE FOR THEM TO BE PICKED UP AT THIS TIME) Kelly club will be open from midday.
  • Wednesday 2nd July  (3:40 pm - 7:40 pm)PLEASE NOTE:

3ST and 4CM will also be holding some interviews on Tuesday 1st July (2:10 pm - 5:30 pm)

These interview times are scheduled for after you receive your child’s report so teachers can talk to the report and you can ask any questions. Reports will be sent home via PAM on Friday 27th.

Our reports do not have comments - only progress marks, so the interview times are a very important part of our reporting process and allows the opportunity to provide further information about your child's progress. Thank you to those who have already made a time to meet.

Soccer Lightning Premiership

Yesterday, Clairvaux had both the boys and girls soccer teams represent their district at the Bellarine Division soccer champs. Both teams did extremely well and we are super proud of both.

The boys narrowly missed out on a grand final playoff game going down in penalties in the semi final. In their 3rd v 4th playoff game, they comfortably took control of the match to finish off in 3rd place for the day. ?

And our girls made it through the group and semi final stage undefeated making it to the playoff Grand Final. In what was a great game where Clairvaux seized control for most of the game, they were unfortunately unable to put that dominance into goals. The would be decided on penalties. Up stepped Lylah Hill channeling her inner Mackenzie Arnold to pull off two super saves and put her team through to the regional championships in early August. Amazing effort girls.

Thank you to the parents for supporting our students (loudly) and to Mark Gibbons for coaching the girls.

Girls Soccer Report

On 12 June we participated in the district lightning premiership for soccer. Together with the boys team we went by bus to Myers Reserve. We started off playing Mt Duneed which was a competitive and well played game, we ended up scoring a 1-0 win. After that we had a break and watched the boys game. We then went to play Queenscliff and won again with a 5-0 score. For our toughest game, to decide our place in our pool we played Drysdale. It was a challenging game with lots of nerves, but we came out on top moving on to the grand final. Ocean Grove was a strongly defensive team, yet with lots of teamwork and encouragement we fought for the win. We ended up going for penalties, with our enthusiasm and skills we triumphed with a 4-3 win. This means we have made it to the regionals where we will play at Caroline Springs in August. We are so grateful for all the support from the parents and our coach Mark for encouraging us along the way. All the teams that we played were very skilled and we were very thankful to play against them and win. Overall it was a fantastic and positive day and we cannot wait to play again in August.
